Hi everyone!
For our June meeting we read chapters 6 & 7 in the book we are reading - Reclaiming Body Trust by Kinavey & Sturtevant - which centered on understanding grief and shame and how it related to our perceptions of our body and how we eat.
One of the things that really stood out for me in these chapters was this statement,
“While shame can serve a purpose in altering us to where we may have hurt another person, acted from bias, or didn’t see our impact, shame’s role in our culture is to keep up compliant and uphold the status quo.”
That quote really resonated with me and I wonder if it resonates with any of you, whether you’ve read the book or not.
Leave a comment below if you have any thoughts about this quote.
Our next book club meeting is Monday, July 7th from 12:15 pm - 1:15 pm and we will be discussing chapters 8 & 9 (pgs. 193-234) of Reclaiming Body Trust by Kinavey & Sturtevant.
